With feet to spare, a 16-story-tall container crane bound for the Port of Portland slipped under the Astoria Bridge just after 8 a.m. April 27. Loaded on the Chinese ship the Zhen Hua 1, the crane reaches a height of 199 feet; the bridge height is 207 feet, and the low tide helped out with another foot. In the end, there was enough room so that the two people standing on top of the crane, who were taking measurements to ensure there was enough room, didn’t even have to duck.
